How long do Nilos Rings last?

Usually as long as the bearing.

What is Increasing Sealing Effect (ISE)?

The Nilos Ring creates a micro labyrinth on the outer or inner ring of the bearing during the first few hours of operation and maintains its sealing properties throughout the life of the assembly Nilos Ring + bearing.

Can the resulting metal residue created by the friction between the Nilos Contact Ring and the bearing damage it?

No, the resulting residue is microscopic and it stays inside the sealing chamber of the Nilos Rings (AV, JV and derivates).

Why use Nilos Rings when there are bearings that already come with their own original Rings ?

Because type Z and ZZ sealed bearings lose their sealing properties when exposed to impurities and become detached in consequence of mechanical ware, rendering them useless.

How can Nilos Rings create a micro-labyrinth on the special steel of bearings?

The Nilos Ring applies a slight pressure on the bearing, causing a molecular erosion of the special steel’s contact surface in approximately two hours of operation at 2,500 rpm.

Are Nilos Rings used only with grease-lubricated bearings?

Normally yes, but we also have solutions for special cases of oil lubricated bearings. Please contact our engineering department for further information.

Do bearing oscillations and gaps prohibit the use of Nilos Rings or interfere in their sealing effect?

Not at all. Nilos Rings are manufactured with thin and flexible 1010 steel (0.3mm or 0.5mm) that compensates gaps (C1, C2, C3, C4) and buffers expected oscillations in standard and self-compensating bearings. Also, there are no restrictions in regards to gaps (C1, C2, C3, C4) when using LSTO Nilos Rings (seals without contact) because the micro labyrinth structure is designed to allow radial and axial movement to compensate these gaps. However, LSTO Nilos Rings are not recommended for Y bearings because these bearings allow misalignments between the axis and the bushing. Misalignment values of self-compensating bearings must be verified before using LSTO Nilos Rings.

Can Nilos Rings be used with all types of bearings?

Nilos Rings use bearings for support, so it is not possible to use Nilos Rings with bearings that have conic holes, conic washers or are axially free.

Can one type of Nilos Ring be used on other bearings?

Yes, as long as the measurements coincide.
